Mayday Parade – Anywhere But Here

Anywhere But Here was released in 2009 and marked Mayday Parade’s second full-length album and first record under Atlantic Records. It also marked the first release from Mayday Parade without co-vocalist, Jason Lancaster. Donovan Melero lives a fast-paced lifestyle of performing, recording, and booking tours across the country. As the lead vocalist in two touring acts, he splits his time between performing on center stage with Blue Swan Records supergroup Sianvar, and singing from behind his drum kit in his own band, Hail The Sun. We caught up with him in Walnut Creek, CA while on a Sianvar tour with Idlehands, Strawberry Girls and Movements to get a better glimpse at the day-to-day happenings of a full-time musician and industry representative. In the first part of our interview Donovan discusses his current projects and how he get involved in the music industry.

AOTM: November – Giants At Large

Giants At Large is a four-piece pop/punk/rock outfit from Long Island, NY. They’ve been around the scene for nearly five years and have toured the East coast extensively.

I had the pleasure of seeing Giants At Large for the first time back in the fall of 2012 when their album Doubt had just been released. They were touring with the now defunct, We Still Dream, and were playing a show in Pontiac, MI (about five miles from where I lived). It was a small, intimate show that gave me the opportunity to talk with each of the band members of Giant At Large and We Still Dream. We hit it off right away as we talked about the pop-punk scene and tour life. (more…)

Dead Leaves – ‘Dead Leaves’

Dead Leaves has been a consistent presence in the Ohio music scene for over the last five years in one way or another.

Dead Leaves originally started out as Call It Fiction, a pop-punk outfit filled with joyful synth and extremely catchy harmonies. Transitioning into Dead Leaves they have ditched the synth to produce some wonderful melancholic indie-pop/punk with hard-hitting lyrics and a more refined sound. They recently signed to Take To This Heart Records and are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Check em out!

Sundressed – ‘The Same Condition’

Cool. This album is cool.

Sundressed, the little band from Arizona that recently joined Take This To Heart Records have made a really cool album in The Same Condition. In mere seconds the band somehow manages to feel like an artist you’ve always known. All four of the tracks on the release sound just like the kind of songs you sing in a dirty basement with a cheap beer in your hand, loudly, and in unison with your closest friends. It’s familiar, fun, and a little rough around the edges. (more…)
