On Tour – 2nd Edition – Part 2

2nd entry 2

It has been 8 days since my last entry and already so much has happened. Here are some obvious facts: we are now 1,800+ miles further along our journey, we’ve consumed more V8 Energy drinks than I ever thought possible, and of course, we are catching up on a much-needed laundry day right now in Durham, NC.

Texas was an absolute blast. We dreaded Texas the last time around because of the sheer vastness of it. However, when you have 4 shows scattered throughout, it’s not so bad. Texas came out to party and we are so glad they did. The first stop was right along the U.S. border in El Paso. I’ll frankly admit I didn’t have high expectations for this town. You hear the stories of violence, corruption and rampant drug use, but our experience was far from that. We saw a spirited downtown. The locals were kind, generous and full of laughter everywhere we went. (more…)

On Tour: 2nd Edition – Part 1

2nd edition

Hello all,

I told myself I didn’t want to write about tour every day on my second time out, but I can’t help but feel like I need to write here and there. You get a lot of time to yourself on tour (despite being stuck in a van with 6 other people for 8+ hours a day) and it’s important to reflect on your thoughts, priorities and the journey ahead.

I firstly want to make a disclaimer about my previous writings. As happy and gung-ho as some of the entries may have seemed, there was a looming negativity I never wrote about. It’s something that was never overbearing, but it did put a slight damper on one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I apologize if I mislead anyone with the aura of fanaticism I incorporated into many of those stories. These entries will be nothing but the earnest truth. (more…)

Top Albums of 2016

A little late to the party, but here’s our Top Albums of 2016 by myself (Patrick) and my new writing partner (Adam).

With Confidence – Better Weather

I gotta hand it to Australia this year. They produced two of my absolute favorite pop-punk records of the year. With Confidence made their debut with Better Weather, released from Hopeless Records. Hopeless has been doing an admirable job at recruiting new and exciting pop-punk bands and With Confidence is another successful investment. Backed by a crisp production, With Confidence’s debut album is chalk full of everything that makes a genre album exciting: strong vocals, catchy melodies, exciting riffs, and most importantly, staying power. 2016: The Return of the Pop-Punk Giants

2016 was an incredible year for old and new pop-punk fans alike. We have witnessed the reunion of Sum 41, a new member in Blink-182, and new work from genre masters such as Green Day, Yellowcard, Simple Plan, and Jimmy Eat World.

Does 2016 mark the coming of a pop-punk revival? Or are bands simply trying to cash in on their once prominent image? I realize not all of these bands identify as pop-punk by today’s standards, but they were once giants in the scene at one point. Let’s work through this list chronologically.

Simple Plan – Taking One For The Team (February 19, 2016)
Last releases: Get Your Heart On: The Second Coming EP (2013), Get Your Heart On (2011)

Yes, Simple Plan is still around. That always seems to be the consensus every time the Canadian pop-punk band releases something new. Taking One For the Team walks the fine line between “preppy-fun” and “try-hard.” (more…)

On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 26

tour-42-scottsdale

We crashed at what would be our last hotel of tour just outside of Scottsdale, AZ. It was a last second decision swayed by the fact that it was 82 degrees at 2:00am and we didn’t want to sweat to death in our sleep. Prior to that decision, Dan and Joey just got away with buying booze before Arizona’s liquor laws kicked in at 2:00am. We were destined to have a fun night in our hotel.

After a night of laughing and falling asleep watching the terribly aged remake of “Lost In Space,” we woke up intermittently. I snagged a shower right before our water was shut off. Apparently there was a city-wide shut down for a water leak in Scottsdale and the cut off time was 10:00am. What a wonderful way to start the last day of tour. I took charge of our half-showered crew and led the lunch brigade to WhatABurger. (more…)
