Last night’s drive featured one of the most thought-provoking discussions I’ve had in quite some time. We discussed the merits of higher education and how the experience is rewarding and essential for many in growing as a person, but too costly for most. We delved into the feminist movement and how proud we are of women establishing themselves in our modern patriarchal society. All of this took place during our 90 minute commute to Anaheim. Driving at 1am in L.A is the only sane way to get around with a van and trailer.

We woke to the faint sounds of Disneyland creeping through our windows just outside of a Holiday Inn a few miles from our next venue. The boys let me decide our lunch options since it was my birthday. (more…)

I can’t say I’ve ever woken up on the first day of December sweating until now. We rolled into a Best Western at 4:00am and put up camp in the parking lot. Jake was quite irritated he had an 8:00am work meeting with only a few hours of sleep. He kindly went to a nearby Starbucks so he didn’t have to wake us up while working.

This was a huge day for the band. Their fifth studio release, Rearm Circuits, officially debuted. They were attentive to their phones with messages of congratulations from fans, family and friends. There was a visible notice in their demeanor. It was a “it’s finally here” type of mentality. Icarus is very proud of the record and having heard it a lot in the last week it’s easy to see why. Sometimes even with the luxury of a comfortable hotel bed you can’t help but twist and turn all night. However in one of my turns I found Joey holding an earbud out to me. I took it in and fell asleep to Saves The Day. The best part of this hilariously kind 3:00 am gesture was Joey not being able to recall this happening at all. He claims it was the first time he’d ever done anything like that. I took it as a compliment.

Tim laid down in the dungeon (lower bunk of the van) to help fight off his hangover while Jake and I put in some serious time with our remote jobs. It was a quick 3 hours to Fresno from just outside our hotel in Sacramento. (more…)
