On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 13

Waking up after 5 hours of sleep is never a good way to start the day. Luckily those 5 hours were spent in a comfortable bed with a bit of air conditioning. We were bound for NYC in the morning. Joey threw out his neck in Albany by head banging too hard and was incapable of movements required by a driver, so I took the reigns. A cozy 3 hour drive through scenic Connecticut put us in Staten Island around noon. Damian of Only Sibling was gracious enough to offer up his home for parking and sleeping arrangements later that night.

One of the things we knew we had to do while in the state of New York was see NYC. I’ve never been to the Big Apple and with such a close proximity to our location we had to take advantage of that. (more…)

On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 12

You know that feeling of waking up and thinking it’s a lot earlier than it really is? It was definitely one of those days as we all woke up around 12:30 in the afternoon. That type of deep sleep was needed for all of us. Dan didn’t even make it out of the van before passing out for the night either. Since the venue was only a brief 90 minutes away we still had a couple hours to relax and shower up.

Before we left for Albany, we wanted to circle back and see a dam that we passed by the night before. It looked absolutely stunning in the moonlight and seeing it during the day was still as spectacular as we thought it would be. Connecticut was breathtaking to behold. (more…)

On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 11

tour-21-joeyI hazily remember stumbling from the front seat into the second row bench as Dan was gearing up to drive to Boston early in the morning. Any big city along the way demands as much time as possible to explore it.

I’ve never been a morning person and it took me longer than usual to get ready for the day on the streets of Allston, MA. Dan had already taken off to do Postmates and explore the city on his own. With some nourishment in us, we took a walk around the Boston suburb. Joey and I bumped into the owner of the music shop Mr. Music as he was opening up shop for the day. He invited us in for a quick tour and told us all about the history of musicians that have made their way through the place over the last 50 years. He even gave us a parting gift of a couple free t-shirts and wished us good luck for the show. (more…)

On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 10

tour-19-syracuse It has become part of my morning routine to wake up and see a Walmart parking lot filling up with customers to start my morning. As does stumbling out of the van and rubbing my eyes until my body is in sync. We woke up in Erie, PA next to a Steak and Shake that teased my mind all morning. Everyone but Joey resisted that urge and we set off for Syracuse.

We made good progress through the night to close the 7 hour gap from Toledo to Syracuse that would provide us with some down time to explore Syracuse. Unfortunately, the other night in Grand Rapids took a toll on some of the guys equipment. Dan’s bass and Joey’s guitar heads took a plunge. They’ve been doing their best to repair them on the fly, but there’s only so much they can do at this point. With extra time to spare, we went to guitar center to try and remedy the situation. On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 9

I got to experience one night of feeling at home on this tour. That’s more than I can say for the others, apart from Rob. Despite the fact that I got to sleep in my old bed, that rest was unfortunately short lived as my brother had an early flight out in the morning and I wanted to catch up with him as much as I could. I won’t be seeing my family again until Christmas so any moments I can squeeze in I would. We devoured some sloppy joes and snacks left for us by my brother as we nestled into the couch to watch South Park and relax.

My sister came over for a quick visit in the early afternoon and showed me all the latest housing projects she had been working on. Hearing the cost of rent for these newly remodeled homes compared to the Bay area made me shake my head. (more…)

On Tour With Belle Noire: Day 8

It’s an overwhelming feeling of bliss waking up on a couch compared to the familiarity of the van bench. My friend Ashley made some breakfast to kill the time waiting for the guys to swing back around to Grand Rapids to pick me up. They maintained a busy morning with showering and laundry at their friend Bryan’s house by Lake Michigan.

The boys swung by in the early afternoon and picked me up. Considering the drunk texts I got the night before, they seemed in decent shape all things considered. My extended driving shift has encompassed all of Michigan and I have to say I don’t miss the terrible highways. (more…)
